Topic: Character EP Question?

As far as long term EP progression is concerned, is it better to start off with 2 highly specialized characters (1 Combat, 1 Industry), or 1 that is more Combat / Industry centered?

I have no interest in Corporate Management, which is why I didn't include it =p

Re: Character EP Question?

Two characters are better as there is very little cross training but the issue being that trading between them can be a pain. 1 character per account works best but also specialised.

Re: Character EP Question?

like EVE (as far as I know), every thing is made to specialize or multi-account.

Re: Character EP Question?

It has already been answered, but we cant stress enough how important it is to specialize and just split your EP between characters only if you have to.

If you're really curious, download the Perpetuum Skill Planner and see for yourself just how much more EP it costs when you have a "balanced" character.  It can easily be 25% more EP to train the same skills on 1 character than it would be to split those into 2 characters with different specialties.

Re: Character EP Question?

hybrids = bad at everything
specialize or die for at least for the first year. Hybrids after a year actually work ok.
I'm thinking do something like 2 accounts for the first year, a miner and a combat agent. Once my combat skills are maxxed out, then start working on the mining.

I'm still an advocate of doing EP by the character, not the account. I have more fun when I can try out different styles of play. Without a full expenditure of EP, there is no point in trying alts. It's not a game killer like cheating, exploiting or hacking, but it does take some of the fun away. My only motivation for playing games is to have fun.

Re: Character EP Question?

I 2boxed in Eve for years *sigh* I really wasn't wanting to do that again sad

Re: Character EP Question?

You can do both on one character but it will take twice as long to max out at both.

Re: Character EP Question?

It would take more than twice as long to do different roles. Your stats will let you do the first thing pretty fast, but the second will take longer cause it costs more EP to do things you don't have the stats to do.
My example: 8 months to "max out" a combat agent, 12 months to "max out" mining after that. Where as a pure miner could "max out" in 8 months. Some of the skills carry over so it won't really take that long, but you get the gist of it.

Re: Character EP Question?

Pure miners also can't defend themselves. wink
It's swings and roundabouts. You can specialise for more speed if you want to but you're forced to. An army of average characters with average setups will be just as good as the elites. It's up to you to get yourself organised and involved. smile

Re: Character EP Question?

Now, if at some point in the future there is an option to do a character xfer from one account to another, I'll be very pleased and not mind much having to 2box.

Re: Character EP Question?

i've run a test on the planner.
setting all extensions, except for political/economy, and change the attributes to full military, then industrial.
at the end, beyond the fact that it takes MANY years, the industrial way is much far faster.

so if you realy want to do both, choose wisely and take into account the number of extensions by attribute, and the long run.
