Topic: Played last night, 3 stEVE veterans enjoyed very much

We're very pleased with the game. We love the similarities and this is what we wanted to do. Get on a planet and hopefully, soon, do some sock em robot action.

The similarities with our play in the other game make this game an easy transition. We kind of love that actually, and we're very excited about the overview/targeting system ( The primary target addition was interesting ). Want to try different bots and get into fights. Hoping the pvp will be kept reasonable ( ie not 3 months training )

The market is awesome, works well, smooth.

Hopefully the pvp will be as fun as eve was, except this time you get to feel the element of roaming as it feels on foot, vs wait 10 seconds for a warp to finish and jump 100 systems to get 1 fight. Hoping that classes of robots will complement one another.

*********** UPDATE PVP EXPERIENCE 11/10/10 **************

I tried an open pvp event where everyone was in somewhat newbie bots equipped with decent gear ( plates, armor reps , better tech guns ). Was 3-4 squads at different locations consisting of 4-5 players each. PvP worked fine. Noticed that the squad interface worked well, and the overview for targets was working fine.

Could use hill elevation to my advantage, block some damage with standing behind terrain. Not much lag, server worked extremely well. Was impressed. Cycle repping energy depletion worked kind of like eve does when you fight.

Scored a couple of kills on other newbie bots, then died several times.

Setting primary target was a bit weird, since in eve you can have several targets and just shot at one automatically. That may be a beginners mistake though.

Pretty fun! Should have taken screens, but action was intense.

Thanks to the gm running it.

But as several year eve vets, with multiple ship class experiences, small, medium, large, capital we are excited for this game!!!

Here's to your future, and hopefully some neat conquerable terrain and rich resources for us!

Got the pre-oprder, cheap buy, recommend it to all.

BTW our background is:
2+ years in eve
fought multiple allianes, big battles, small, covert action.

so we're ready!!

Get some cloaking robots soon wink

3+ year eve vet here.

I have found the pvp in this game to be more complex a lot of the time because of terrain and for me has been more fun too.

The terrain etc. seems to lean more towards multi ways of strategy and tactics that I find eve lacking in at times.

We noticed this week they agents can be priest/mages  They control the bots that can heal and do EW.

Re: Played last night, 3 stEVE veterans enjoyed very much

wow that's cool!! It's nice to see the terrain can make a difference.

I haven't gotten into it further, but how do the guns work? I'm not expecting like too complex mechanics as stEVE had.

For example, some guns had a rotation speed which would affect how fast you could go around the target.

Do they have close range gank weapons as well? Like heavy blasters, or pulse lasers?

Re: Played last night, 3 stEVE veterans enjoyed very much

There are some EM slugs that you get for completing level 1 missions that have a -75% range penalty, but dish 36 points of (kinetic?) damage per hit. Quite fun to roll up in the face of a mob with these loaded in 3x EMs. There are other similar ammo loadouts for missiles and lasers I believe.

Re: Played last night, 3 stEVE veterans enjoyed very much

conventional firearms(machine guns basically) are your basic weapon.

Em guns are close range high damage.

Lasers are long range least damage.

Missiles are meduim range, meduim damage, but can fire over hills ignoring line of sight.

Perp uses similar mechanics to combat, but there's no rotational speed. The rest is the same, but the addition of line of sight mechanics makes things very interesting.

Incorrect.

Guass guns are close range extreme damage.
EM guns are medium range and medium damage.

Close range lasers are high damage, medium range and high cap consumption.
Long range lasers are extreme range, medium damage and high cap consumption.

Missiles have a huge arc of fire, terrible damage, high alpha and low cap consumption.

This is correct.

Gauss guns are a close range varient of EM guns. They are often reffered to as "shotguns" as they are essentially point blank weapons (30m range with proper fit.) but are terrifyingly powerful. It's a risky setup, but if you can get in close, whatever you point at, dies.

Re: Played last night, 3 stEVE veterans enjoyed very much

same experience here, i played eve since 2004, and jumping into this game has been fairly easy adjustment due to the similarities.  Only thing that worries me at this point is the decision to go with paypal as the only form of payment, instead of direct charge to my cc, which makes it rather tough to make the decision to play if they don't change that soon.  payment should not be a complicated process, and paypal downright sux.

Do people just say Paypal sucks for the same reason they'd say WoW sucks?

Re: Played last night, 3 stEVE veterans enjoyed very much

Updated with pvp event experience.

Re: Played last night, 3 stEVE veterans enjoyed very much

Just a new player question, but how do I switch the primary targets?
When I have multiple targets, 1,2,3, how do you shift the primary besides going to your overview/left click/make primary?

Re: Played last night, 3 stEVE veterans enjoyed very much

Yo can either doubleclick the target in the targeting computer window, or cycle with tab key and push R to make the selected primary.

Tab to the target you want then press R to make primary is the best route.

On a related note, I also recommend rebinding unlock to a key like Q so you can easily unlock a target if you make a misake instead of having to move off of WASD to get to U.
