Re: The starting ant has got to go

I think that a wider leg base and lower center of gravity would improve the look and feel of the bots, or at least give them a sleeker more menacing feel.  As they stand now (no pun intended), they are very high up with their legs beneath them in most cases.

Re: The starting ant has got to go

I'd like to see longer legs and slower animation for the "insect" robots. They seem to be on drug now, with these legs moving that fast. I'm not talking about the speed of the robot, only the legs animation.

I think i really like the "wall-e" feeling one the wheeled ones.

Re: The starting ant has got to go

I agree with the OP.  This game is heavily marketed as a MECH GAME.  That means, people should be expecting to play as a MECH.  For that one idiot who said that there are "mechs in game" and that "this is NOT a mech game, its prerpetuum".. I think you need a reality check.  Look at perpetuums own launch video.  This game is heavily based on mechs.  I for one was disappointed in the bug looking robot as my first bot.  It would be easy for them to make a small, mobile 2 legged mech with 2 gun slots.  I think the bug bot would be a good one for later in the game, as a larger, more menacing looking mech.  But the OP is absolutely right, switching the starter mechs and giving htem the same stats as the beginning mech is not making them overpowered, it would definitely enhance the start of this game.

Re: The starting ant has got to go

Humanoid mechs are the first thing that pops into peoples minds when they think of mechs. As a newbie, it's much better dealing with something that is familiar.

ITs not like with fantasy MMO's where you're already this hulking figure with a few scraps of fabric draping over your bulging muscles.

I think Mechs should be human gendered and anatomically correct so Neoxx can stare at my huge swole awesomeness on the very first day, now if I could only get a dance emote...

Re: The starting ant has got to go

I didn't get an impression this was a mech only game. I thought it was a robot and mech game, and nothing on the website made me think different. The login sceen had a little robot thing next to a bigger humanoid mech, and I certainly didn't expect to get a humanoid mech to start with. The info on the website specifically states the range of robots that are extant on Nia, and humanoid mechs were only one kind of many.

If anything, it's a criticism of the launch trailer inaccurately portraying the game, not of the game itself being wrong for starting you in an ant.

And just look at this fail beta.  What the *** is a beta that doesn't crash?  The Npc's don't warp, characters don't get stuck in terrain, graphics don't glitch. I mean sersiously!  What are the Dev's smoking?  Another fail from the fail devs. Original post by Hadouken

Re: The starting ant has got to go

Fair enough.  The trailers should showcase the bots as well as mechs equally, as to not give the impression that the whole game is played in mechs.

When I started this game months ago I never had the impression that I was going to start off in a mech.  I knew full well that I'd have to work for the cool sh*t, but even the smaller stuff can be really bad ass if you do it right.

Re: The starting ant has got to go

I think, you all need to review the definition of a Mech http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mecha and what you expect from this Game.
A Mech is not necessarly a human or legged robot, it's just a familiar view of it.
I feel in a mech even in the arkhe, just stronger or greater in a bigger one.
and the progression is just fine and strongly related to the background of the world.

Re: The starting ant has got to go

because all of you startet to nitpick...

an ant has 6 legs... Arkhe has 4.

For my part, i actually cant wait to have the bigger insect like mechs implemted. Bipedal is mainstream, boring and uncreative.

When I first saw the starter ant, I was actually glad to see that the devs had enough imagination to go beyond the bipedal walking cliché that I was expecting.

That said though, I do think new players should get an early sign of what they have to look forward to. That could be as simple as adding a few friendly NPC spawns patrolling around the starting terminals in a variety of high level bots.

Re: The starting ant has got to go

A huge plus would be as already state - slow down the animation of the arkh. The animation is so fast that it seriously messes up the feel of piloting it.

Re: The starting ant has got to go

I don't think theres anything wrong with giving arkhe at start, only thing bugging me is animation for feet seems too fast, its giving me headache.

Re: The starting ant has got to go

Does this game market to the people who start it up, find out that their first bot is not a mech and then quit in despair? We are dealing with a long-term sandbox game. The level of instant gratification in terms of bots, big weapons and goals in general is low. The sensation of fighting in a big hulking mech with big guns will be much larger once you have had to work for it.

It would be nice to see diversififaction between the starting corps in the starting robot. But I assume that it has to do with limited manpower. With a 10 person team, I would put many things above athat on my priority list.
