Topic: Can the landscape be made more colourful?

I like the way the world is modelled, and I think the sunrises and sunsets are gorgeous.

However, it feels a bit drab. It's not the detail, which is fine, it's the lack of colour in the landscape. Could you make the vegetation a bit more vibrant?

And just look at this fail beta.  What the *** is a beta that doesn't crash?  The Npc's don't warp, characters don't get stuck in terrain, graphics don't glitch. I mean sersiously!  What are the Dev's smoking?  Another fail from the fail devs. Original post by Hadouken

FABULOS!

Re: Can the landscape be made more colourful?

More color would be good. I tended to avoid drab colored areas in other games.

Re: Can the landscape be made more colourful?

What a pretty shade of pink, I'm sure you spent hours choosing it. Would you like to be friends?

Ok, maybe the purple was a mistake.

But I'm glad to see some people agree with me tongue

I'd just like to see e.g. some blue shading on the vegetation and rocks in Attalica, and the same but with reds and oranges in the Asian area. The other island looks fine, since it's covered in green.

I think what's there looks pretty realistic and it definitely looks alien, but it's a gameworld. It needs to look eye catching, which right now it doesn't.

Re: Can the landscape be made more colourful?

You spelled color wrong in the title and once in the post.   Just thought I'd let you know.

He knows. He's just jealous because he's on the wrong side of the Atlantic where they don't know how to pronounce the word "scones" properly.

Re: Can the landscape be made more colourful?

Depends. We either say Sc-Own or Sc-On. However the former sounds more sophisticated and is the way most of my friends and family pronounce it.

Re: Can the landscape be made more colourful?

This game world could stand for some more saturated colors, though on the plants it would make no sense unless there was animal life, as well.  Plants become colorful to make some part of their anatomy enticing to animals.  Those of us with more of the X chromosomes evolved mostly on the important and productive gathering side of the hunter/gatherer equation, so they may feel the importance of color more deeply, unlike the hunter types (who by the way spent more time talking trash around the fire and killing each other than hunting).

I don't think life on this world has evolved past plant life.  The robots certainly don't give a crap what color it is.  This would be like Earth before animals invaded the land.  There were plants on land long before animals, and they were probably all drab.

Unless, of course, the robots turned out to like pretty things.  I guess I'm saying that there is some hard core sci-fi going on in the design here.

I'd like to see the ROCKs have more saturated colors.  Plant life is sparse, and so I suppose is soil.

The bots are the equivalent of animals, and they harvest plant life because it has useful organic substances. If the bots have been there long enough for plant life to have evolved in their presence, then the wild plant life will have developed ways to use the bots to propogate themselves (e.g. large colourful pods, etc).

The devs can twist the lore any which way they please to fit the gameworld. And I don't think the background is a good enough excuse to have a drab coloured world.

I'm sure they have improvements planned, they just haven't got around to it yet. Plus the final intention is for the world to be very heavily player modified (structures, plantations, excavations etc).

But I think they could make a difference now just by adding a bit more colour.

Re: Can the landscape be made more colourful?

I agree, that the plantlife could be a little bit more colorfull.

lol, there could be still insects around the size of what we know here on earth - do you think they would be visible compared to those 10m high plants/mechs?
Its more a matter of development priorities and restrictions that you dont see carbon-based lifeforms running around.

About the Gameworld - it depends on the daytime, weather and the gammaslider (which is disabled in windowed mode)

Re: Can the landscape be made more colourful?

Just so you know, I'm going to get bashed for this in-corp for a week.

I kind of like it more with the color. Or perhaps I just watched Avatar one too many times recently.

Re: Can the landscape be made more colourful?

I agree with the OP, i like the toshop' version. Too much grey is too much.

Re: Can the landscape be made more colourful?

nothing would speek against having green leaves on the tree's i think.

Some modification to the ground textures might also be a good way to relieve some of the frustration about the difficulties of fighting on uneven terrain.  It'd be easier to see/notice bumps if the textures included longer elements.
