Topic: Newbie needs some help...

Hi,

I have never played Eve or any other sandbox game but I had the impression that the "goal" of the game is to play whatever you want.
So I decided to play a mercenary - a combat oriented - char.
I played the tutorial missions until I got my Yagel.
It is currently equiped with 3 (my reactor could not support 4) Standard light EM-guns using small liquidcore slugs.

My problem is: My income is negative

For example:
I accept the "Narcissus File #1" Bounty hunting assignment.
Which gives 22500 NIC and 30 slugs.
The objective is to kill 10 servant filch.
I need about 28 slugs to kill one filch, that gives 280 slugs in total for all.
The market price of my slugs is 250.0 NIC which sums up to 70.000 NIC (280 * 250).
That leaves me with a defizit of about 50.000 NIC per Assignment.
I tried to sell the loot on the market, but to no avail - nobody seems to buy anything.
I tried to manfucture the ammo by myself only to find out that buying the raw-materials is even more expensive than buying the ready-made slugs.
Well I could mine/harvest all the materials by myself, but I purposefully decided to choose a combat oriented carreer, so this is a no-no for me.

What can I do?

Re: Newbie needs some help...

first of all, you are using liquidcores? that are sold for 250.

That is first mistake.

Use incendiaries, or composite core, sold cheaper.

You might want to consider refining the loot, and selling the comodities.

Re: Newbie needs some help...

thx for the advice.
I did not realize that there is such a big cost difference between liquidcore (250.00 NIC) and incendiaries (72.00 NIC). This will reduce my defizit to almost null, but that is still not a good foundation for a business. I am still hesitating to refine my loot because after splitting up the things into commodities I will not see which parts give the most profit. But this is just a theory because I didn't make any profit ...
So thx again - I will try that.

If you need any NIC, hit me up in-game and I'll send you a million to help get you started.

Re: Newbie needs some help...

Blackomen, don't mean to sound like a beggar, but does that offer stand as well for someone else? I'm not in desperate need of it at the moment, but if I'm short on change down the line; could I possibly contact you for some financial aid? If not, perfectly fine.

Re: Newbie needs some help...

@ Blackomen: thx for the very generous offer, but I am testing this game and that would water down my experience.

Re: Newbie needs some help...

Last I saw no one sold Liquidcore, I used them by grinding the ammo, it took huge chunks out of my day and wasnt worth it, so as Siddy said vary your ammo types (depending on the mission you are doing and the robots weaknesses).

Secondly - I may have suggested this in your other posts on the somewhat outdated new player 'guide' - but try to find a corp, look in the recruitment forum or on general chat. Most corps produce their own ammo and gear, and have little problem helping suply you, also you will find you learn and advance quicker with the help of a corp due to the sheer amount of Kernals you grind and missions you run when your not solo'ing. This will also be your gateway to PvP at a later date.

Re: Newbie needs some help...

I was actually going to try and start producing liquidcore slugs, but I need 1000 to RE, and they are selling at 90 each!

That's still probably 100s of thousands of NIC cheaper than eating kernals until I have the knowledge to prototype it. I'm assuming that takes at least level 1 light bot kernals, as the drones and Nuimqol drones kernels aren't advancing slug knowledge.

Re: Newbie needs some help...

Oh well, I thougt the thread was dead...
Actually I'm still using liquidcore slugs, but I produce them by myself tongue
Noobish as I am, I still could not yed collect enough nic to buy me an arbalest, but I am working toward that goal.

Meh, I'll throw you mil if you still need it. Sorry I didn't check back on this post in some time.

I don't know what I'm doing differently to you, but I've not had a problem with money at all.

At first I didn't realise you could get a free light mech doing the tutorials, so to start with I ran around with an arkhe killing Nuimqol drones. One trip would yield 100k NIC of drone kernals, plus some standard light EM guns which sell like hot cakes at about 15k NIC a pop. There is no possible way I can spend more than ~100-200k NIC on ammo for a single farming run, even if I tried. I'm using autocannnons and EM guns now.

On top of that, apart from about 2k of autocannon bullets, I haven't bought any ammo at all - it's all come from the tutorial missions or the Nuimquol drone drops.

If the servant filch aren't dropping anything useful, I'd suggest trying a different mob. But kernals are your money makers, more so than bounty hunter faction missions at this level imo.

I'm new also so I don't know what the possibilities are outside of the starter zones, or what you are best doing once you get a better robot, so this advice might come too late.

But good luck with the quest for the Arbalest!

And just look at this fail beta.  What the *** is a beta that doesn't crash?  The Npc's don't warp, characters don't get stuck in terrain, graphics don't glitch. I mean sersiously!  What are the Dev's smoking?  Another fail from the fail devs. Original post by Hadouken
